Alessio Ponti joined the antique market in 1997 when opened his art gallery in via Monserrato right in the heart of the most fascinating Renaissance and Baroque district in the Eternal City stretching between Piazza Farnese and Campo dei Fiori. His first exhibition dates back to 2001 followed by many others focused on 19th century Italian and European painting. His exhibitions are usually supported by an illustrated catalogue. Ponti's creed is to give the highest garantee as regards the works present in his premises. Each month through his website -- that is www.ottocento.it -- Ponti shows his new and original findings under the title of  recent acquisitions. Usually these works come from private collections. His gallery is the only one in the country to offer a permanent view of nineteenth century Italian sculpture together with oil paintings, watercolours and drawings by some of the major artists of the period.
